Picket lines are front lines!

This holiday season, don’t forget who services the stores and restaurants, who picks and packages our food, who cleans the hotels and airports, and who is delivering our mail. With increasing capitalist austerity and billionaire profits, workers especially racialized, immigrant women are bearing the brunt of wage deflation and forced poverty.

Respect the picket lines, and find out how to show support for striking workers!

Hotel Workers on Strike

Unite Local 40 striking workers have been on the picket lines at the Radisson Blu Vancouver Airport for 1,300 days in Canada’s longest hotel strike. The strike started after the hotel terminated 143 long-term employees, mostly immigrant women. See Unite HERE Local 40 for ways to support.

Justice for Janitors!

Over 200 janitors that clean Vancouver’s international airport are going on strike. Alpine Building Maintenance, the cleaners’ employer, has refused to offer janitors wages that keep up with rising costs. Many of the workers are working two jobs, and are seeking $25 per hour to make ends meet.

Picket lines are set to go up on Dec 20 at 7 am. See SEIU Local 2 Justice for Janitors for ways to support.

Solidarity pickets are up to show support for Posties.

Canadian Union of Postal Workers have been ordered back to work by the Liberal government after four weeks of being on strike. This is a glaring example of the government’s continued interference in collective bargaining. Over 55,000 Posties are demanding real job security and wage increases to meet rising costs of living.

Longshore workers striking

On Dec 6, International Longshore Workers Local 502 issued strike notice against SGS Canada. These workers upload the jet fuel from deepsea vessels to transport it to YVR airport.

There are currently two picket locations in Richmond on 5980 Ferguson Road and 15611 Williams Road.
