Weaving Our Worlds strongly denounces the recent Vancouver Police Department and Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s violent home raids, targeted arrests in people’s homes, mass interrogations, and ongoing arrests at actions in the Palestine liberation movement.
We join the Canada Palestine Association and Independent Jewish Voices in condemning the escalating criminalization of the Palestine solidarity movement across these lands, from Vancouver to Ottawa to Montreal to Calgary to Toronto. People are facing anti-Palestinian racism, mass surveillance, smear campaigns, violent arrests and raids, bogus hate crimes charges, detention and deportation, and the listing of solidarity organizations as terrorist entities.
This is not about single individuals or actions; this is a concerted imperialist state effort to intimidate, stifle, divide, and criminalize the entire Palestinian liberation and solidarity movement.
Policing forces in so-called Canada were created to force Indigenous peoples off their lands and to expand settler colonialism. They continue to serve the settler-colonial project today by displacing poor people, attacking Indigenous land defenders, and policing and killing Black and Indigenous peoples.
Similarly, police, security agencies, and border cops are committing violence and intimidation against the Palestinian movement as part of Canada’s contribution to genocide and settler colonialism in Palestine. Canada continues to import and export arms to Israel, has trade and security partnerships with Israel, and gives tax breaks to Canadian charities supporting the IOF.
Authorities around the world are intimidating and arresting those who challenge government and corporate complicity with the Zionist entity.
Whether in Morocco with the arrests of Ismail Ghazaoui and BDS activists, the US with over 3,000 student activists arrested, United Kingdom targeting of Pal Action using draconian counter-terror laws, India defacto banning many pro-Palestine marches, Turkey detaining activists protesting ongoing trade with Israel, Germany arresting and deporting people for almost any expression of solidarity with Palestine, Egypt and the Sisi regime mass arresting people showing solidarity with Palestine, or the Palestinian Authority forces crackdown in the occupied West Bank, we condemn the global repression of Palestinian resistance and Palestine solidarity movements.
